About Virginia Moms for Change Advisory Committee
The Virginia Moms for Change Advisory Committee is a group of trusted advisors who represent a cross-section of professions and demographics. The Advisory Committee exists to increase awareness and support of Virginia Moms for Change throughout the state, while also giving us insight on how to tap into key demographics in order to amplify our mission - preventing gun violence in Virginia.
The Advisory Committee will:
Provide feedback on Virginia Moms for Change content and initiatives
Identify and reduce gaps in Virginia Moms for Change’s reach
Share demographic priorities based on geographic, generational, and occupational insights
We are seeking Advisory Committee members that potentially fill any of the following:
Have experience in social work, non-profits, political advocacy, education, or the medical field
Identify as being part of one of the following generations: Baby Boomer, Generation X, Generation Z, or Generation Alpha
Are located in the following regions of Virginia: West-Central, Southside, Eastern, Southwest, NoVA, and the Valley
Represent VMFC’s commitment to including mothers and “others” (all genders and non-mothers) in the work of gun violence prevention
Requisites of Virginia Moms for Change Advisory Committee members:
Be an advocate of Virginia Moms for Change’s mission to prevent gun violence in Virginia
Contribute to the organization’s goal of volunteer recruitment and engagement via brainstorming and implementing new initiatives.
Attend at least six (6) of the organization’s twelve (12) all-hands monthly meetings—all meetings are virtual.
Serve on one team (Volunteer Engagement or Marketing & Research).
Attend at least six (6) of the team’s twelve (12) monthly team meetings (held right before the all-hands meetings)—all meetings are virtual.
Participate in a minimum of three (3) volunteer opportunities during the year (i.e. drafting or designing a social media post or marketing/educational collateral, hosting an event, attending a meeting with an elected official, pushing safe storage materials out into the community)
The application process includes doing a virtual chat with two committee members.
Service on the Virginia Moms for Change Advisory Committee is for one year with the opportunity to renew.
Applications are due by September 30, 2024. Applicants will receive a response by November 1, 2024.
